The July meeting of the Edinburgh SF Book Group will take place on Tuesday 31st from 6pm in Henderson’s on Hanover Street. The book under discussion this month is by one Mister Neil Gaiman – Neverwhere, an intriguing tale of the shadow world of London, a realm where there is a real earl holding court at Earl’s Court. The BBC television version of the story was rather lacklustre and watered down (although it did have some cool opening graphics by Dave McKean) but the book is a different kettle of fish, more lyrical and layered, as anyone who has read Neil’s work might expect (it was also adapted for comics by Mike Carey for DC). The Book Group meets on the last Tuesday of each month to discuss a work of Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror or Graphic Novel chosen by members, with past books covered ranging from V For Vendetta to Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake (we like diversity). Details can be found on the Book Group blog and anyone is welcome to come along and join in.
