Awards, Comics and cartoons

Heidi at the Beat has the list of this year’s winners for the prestigious Eisner Awards which were announced at the weekend. Again it is a fair mixture, from the big players like DC (my gods but Fables did them proud, didn’t it?) to Fantagraphics and Oni Press, while it probably won’t be a surprise to see a couple of titles which have been much feted in the last few months, Fun Home and American Born Chinese also figuring in the Eisners (deservedly, I hasten to add). Nice to see David Petersen (of Mouse Guard fame) getting a nod and I’m sure Joe Pruett must be pleased with the gong for The Art of Brian Bolland because I know he put a ton of effort into making it a serious art book and not just a collection of pretty pictures (and Brian’s pictures are very, very pretty). Congratulations to everyone who made a splash here on the winner’s list:

  1. The Forbidden Planet International Blog Log » Harvey awards announced Says:

[...] This year’s Harvey awards were announced last night (Newsarama was pretty quick off the draw with the results) and as is often the case there is a fair bit of crossover with the Eisners (for example James Jean is honoured once more, Absolute DC: new Frontier picks up another gong, the Complete Peanuts continues to impress, American Born Chinese still conquers all). Ahead of a discussion which should be coming up on SF Awards Watch over the next day or two author (and former Eisner judge) Jeff VanderMeer offers up some thoughts on the finalists on his blog, Ecstatic Days: [...]
