Elric of Melniboné, the immortal creation of the great Michael Moorcock (I’m not worthy!) may be heading for the big screen, decades after his first appearance in print. A large number of books and short stories have appeared over the years, as well as adaptations into comics, notably by P Craig Russell and Walt Simonson (DC have this version due later this summer).
(forthcoming DC version of Elric, with art by Walt Simonson)
It is hard to understate the influence Moorock has had on the world of SF&F, both with Elric (often as a version of his Eternal Champion) and the idea of the Multiverse, which continues to influence later creators and can be seen in works such as Bryan Talbot’s Luther Arkwright and Hal Duncan’s mind-bending fantasy novels Vellum and Ink . Now Empire reports that Chris Weitz and his brother Paul are to adapt Elric for the big screen, apparently with Moorcock’s blessing.
