Fearless in Belfast

Artist PJ Holden made an appearance in the Belfast branch of Forbidden Planet International on Saturday to celebrate the first issue of Fearless which he illustrated (with the script by Mark Sable and Dave Roth). PJ was understandably worried that most of the comics fans in the Emerald Isle would have been down south in Dublin for the comics convention but his fears (yes, that is a bad punning reference to the comic) were soon allayed and he found himself actually staying on to sign longer than he originally anticipated, much to his surprise: “Signing, it turns out, helps sell books – never really occurred to me before or at least it never occurred to me that ME signing could help sell books.” PJ also seems to be pretty happy with the fact there was a good mix of female readers as well as male, which is good to know; you can check out his write-up about the event on his blog, while he has some pictures from the gig (which I’ve shamelessly borrowed here) on Picasa here. The first issue of Fearless, published by Image, was reviewed on the blog here a few weeks ago and also picked up a decent review in the current issue of SFX as well, I noticed; the second issue should be in stores early in December.

I’m really delighted to hear it – it’s always good to see a new comic doing well and I genuinely enjoyed the first issue when PJ gave me a sneak peek back in September (reviewed here) and I noticed it got a decent review in SFX magazine too. Now with the second issue due from Image this week, PJ and his fellow creators Mark Sable and David Roth have posted up the whole of the first issue to read on Newsarama’s forums, so if you missed it here is a chance to catch up just before issue #2 hits the shelves.
