It hasn’t been the brightest summer so far and you may find yourself looking for something interesting to occupy you – luckily there are a couple of interesting comics events here in Europe if you aren’t going to be over on the West Coast of America for the San Diego Comic-Con. If you happen to be in Amsterdam on August 10th why not drop by at the famous Lambiek Comic Store for the great Lamelos auction? To celebrate the publication of “Cheese Hero 3″, Dutch underground combo Lamelos (literally, “lemmebe”) is organising a big auction of all their junk and second hand stuff they don’t need anymore. The proceeds go to a good cause, namely plenty of beer for all present.

Lamelos will be signing their books, drinking and making noise. You are invited to come, drink and bring stuff to sell (and you’re also advised to bring a plastic bag for all the junk you’ll end up with too). As they say, a splendid time is guaranteed for all. More on Lamelos can be found on their old but still wacky website.

If you happen to be in La Louviere before August 19th why not stop by at the local Centre de la Gravure et de l’Image Imprimée (Centre for Printed Art), where quite a large Joost Swarte exhibition has been running for a while now, which sadly hasn’t had much attention paid to it from abroad.
With 350 works divided in 12 chapters, this must be the largest Swarte exhibition ever held in the country. More information can be found at the centre’s website or via 0032 (0) 64 27 87 27. The Centre’s address is the lovely 10, Rue des Amours, 7100 La Louvière (Belgium). Swarte’s own website boasts a multilingual Flash feature which is worth a look – a little tricky to navigate, perhaps, but it does have all sorts of interesting pieces on it, including some gallery pictures, but don’t forget to turn your volume down.
