Funniest film one-liners

Film, TV and radio, General

Nothing to do with comics or SF, but for a bit of light relief as we slide into the Easter weekend break, The Register has a top ten of the funniest movie one-liners, as picked by a thousand comedians, fans and film industry figures (does the latter include the woman who sells the choc ices?). In top position came the late, great Kenneth Williams with “Infamy! Infamy! They’ve all got it in for me!” from Carry on Cleo (you have to say it out loud in a nasal Williams voice).

Other one-liners picked out included “He’s not the Messiah, he’s a very naughty boy,” from Monty Python’s Life of Brian, “Remember you’re fighting for this woman’s honour, which is probably more than she ever did,” from Duck Soup and “Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here. This is the War Room,” from the still-brilliant-after-all-these-years Doctor Strangelove. Shame there’s nothing in there from Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein or Blazing Saddles, but you can’t have everything (as Steven Wright notes, if you did, where would you put it all?).
