Glasgow comics institution Pete Root passes

Some very sad news this morning from Jim and our colleagues at FPI in Glasgow: “We are sad to report the the loss of our dear friend Pete Root who passed away on Sunday morning. He will be missed by all at the Glasgow store and was a loyal and true friend. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to his wife Doreen.”

After increasing success with local weekend comics marts, Root and compatriot John McShane founded AKA Books & Comics, and both the store and its owners were integral to Scotland’s modern comics scene. The store finally succumbed to the horrific economic climate for comics in 1995.
