Heroes creator apologises for ‘slow’ start to new season

Heroes creator Tim Kring has apologised to fans for a slow start to the second season of the series. Already several episodes into the new run in the US the show, which was the top-rated US new drama last year, has seen a distinct fall off in audience, which critics believe is down to a slow plotline and too many new characters being introduced. “We assumed the audience wanted season one – a build up of intrigue about these characters and the discovery of their powers. They wanted adrenaline… We made a mistake – we took too long to get to the big-picture story,” Tim Kring speaking to Entertainment Weekly. Tim also said that he regretted adding in some romantic subplots which, on reflection, he thought didn’t fit the show very well.

Like many productions in the US the show has been hit by the writer’s strike, with only three completed episodes left to air; however, this isn’t all bad since Tim is promising to listen to fan’s criticism and re-start with a “clean slate” when production can resume. I do hope when it gets going again it moves more smoothly – it’s a cracking show and I’d hate to see the network look at declining audience and not go for a third season, since it feels like the kind of ongoing story-arc that really needs a few seasons to fill out and breathe properly.
