Via Tom at Comics Reporter comes more news of comics awards shortlists, this time in the form of the Ignatz awards which are given out during the Small Press Expo in Bethesda. After a Harveys awards list which was, to be honest, a little conservative and perhaps even dull (except that Civil War best issue win which has really hacked off a lot of observers) it is good to see some of the damned fine work from our independent presses being celebrated. Drawn & Quarterly’s Moomins voiume one is in there, so is King-Cat, Marguerite Abouet’s Aya, Rutu Modan’s Exit Wounds, Richard Sala’s Delphine (most appropriate since they are part of Fantagraphics’ wonderful Ignatz range) and Lewis Trondheim and Joan Sfar’s Dungeon among many other titles that are all well worth your reading time; both Tom and the official site have the full section nominees listings.
