Imax Dark Knight

The Hollywood Reporter carries news that Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight, the follow-up to the well-received Batman Begins, will be partially filmed using Imax cameras. While previous big screen outings have also been shown in Imax theatres this is apparently the first time such a major feature film has actually used Imax cameras to capture some of the action. for those of us who don’t have an Imax nearby the effect of scenes shot on Imax cameras should still provide increased spectacle according to Dan Fellman of Warner Brothers.

Some early test footage using Imax have already been shot, including a prologue scene filmed in Chicago with Heath Ledger’s Joker. Christopher Nolan commented; “In continuing the story of such a great icon, I’m thrilled to be able to expand the scope of the film, not just in terms of its story, but in giving Batman and the Joker the largest possible canvas on which to face off. No existing technology compares with the Imax format in terms of its ability to throw the audience into the action, and we’re very proud and excited to use this technology in a way that no one has before”
