Hollywood Reporter pretty much gushes on the animated feature adaptation of Marjane Satrapi’s graphic novel Persepolis and talks to the artist about the great international success of both book and movie, with the latter looking likely to end up on the shortlist for both Best Animated Feature and Best Foreign Language movie come Oscar time, a rather rare happening should it come off.

“You know, we made the movie without making any compromise. I come from the French underground comic scene. I have always worked with independent people. It was a small budget movie. The musician was our friend. Lots of people that we worked with were people that we knew from before. When you make something like that and you try to do your best, then you have the critics with you. But then (to find that) the audience is also with you, that is just amazing. I have the feeling that I have the benediction of the gods or something. It’s just incredible,” Marjane Satrapi quoted in the Hollywood Reporter, discussing the good reception the film version has received. What a shame we have to wait so damned long for it to be released in the UK…
