Two of my favourite Scottish-based comics creators, John and Sandra from Metaphrog (home to the wonderful Louis graphic novels), dropped me a line to say they will be taking part in the Six Cities Design Festival in bonnie Dundee towards the end of May, where they will be giving a talk as well as exhibiting some of the original artwork from their Louis books. Having enjoyed the discussion on European comics at the Glasgow Goethe Institut last winter in which John and Sandra took part (along with Paul Gravett, Marc Baines and Arne Bellstorf – a transcript of that talk is available on the blog here) I’d highly recommend anyone in the area takes advantage of this chance (and equally I’d recommend reading the Louis books if you haven’t already).
John and Sandra don’t have full details yet, although they know there are others taking part including, hopefully, Hunt Emerson, with Paul Gravett on the list along too, with numerous discussions about comics and their relations to other media and the history of comics in the city (Dundee being home to the mighty D C Thomson empire); the details so far for John and Sandra’s event (thanks, guys) are:
