Of course we all knew it but Chris Weston puts it into words on his blog as well as sharing the following page from this weeks new 2000AD.
Mike McMahon has long been one of the most influential of the 70′s school of 2000AD cartoonists – where he developed new ways of showing many of the characters which opened the box for all those who would follow (when he started McMahon had been asked to copy first Dredd artist Carlos Ezquerra’s style). His work in comics has been a little sporadic often with long breaks between periods of more concentrated activity and he has been largely invisible for the last few years.
Now not only have we got some new Dredd work – showing McMahon playing with his style yet again – a more rounded feel to the character designs than say in the very angular Legends of the Dark Knight story from a few years back (agreed, Mike’s never been afraid to change his style over the years and great to see him still doing that, makes the work stay fresh – Joe) – but also Mike now has a new website. If you aren’t familiar with one of the UK’s finest comics talents this is the place to familiarise yourself with his work – and see why he is considered a great and an artist’s artist. Let’s hope Mike is back for a good while – UK comics have missed him.
