Comics and cartoons

Chris Lynch tells me that the very groovy British small press comics team Monkeys With Machine Guns has signed a deal with Markosia for a new four-part mini-series “Magpye”, which co-creator Chris describes as a “psychological supernatural super-hero-horror story.”

I’ve been watching the guys at MWM for a while now and have been impressed with their vision. When Chris Lynch got in touch a while back I told him that we were looking for new titles for late 2008 – early 2009, which led to the pitch for The Magpye and a couple of other exciting ideas which we’ll be discussing at a later date. The Magpye is just the kind of exciting property which we want to be associated with, and to develop further. I explained to Chris what we have in mind for the future and things developed into a full blown negotiation. Everything happened quite quickly, and we decided that the Birmingham International Comic Show would be a great place to seal the deal, which we did. I’m looking forward to seeing the story unfold; I think a lot of people are going to be surprised with what we’ll be putting out there,” Markosia’s Harry Markos on his deal with Monkeys With Machine Guns.

Good news for MWM’s Chris Lynch and Stu.Art – I’m really pleased to see one of our well-regarded UK small press comics teams doing so well; let’s hope this translates into both interesting new comics (which knowing them it will) and more comics readers becoming aware of their work and picking it up (and hopefully growing awareness of the range and invention we have in so much of our Brit small press community). Magpye will be solicited at some point in 2008 – more when we hear it from a doubtless very excited MWM team. For more information check out the MWM site, where you can also enjoy a cool video teaser/taster for MWM #2: When Worlds End, a wonderfully creepy collection.
