More Who guests announced

Film, TV and radio

The BBC continues its cunning scheme of keeping up interest in Doctor Who in-between seasons by letting out little announcements a piece at a time. This week they are announcing that Felicity Kendall, best known for her appearance in the BBC sit-com The Good Life (and also once voted ‘Rear of the Year’) will guest star, playing Lady Clemency Eddison in season 4, which has started filming already. Tim McInnerny will also appear next season – Tim is well known for his comedy work with Rowan Atkinson in the Blackadder series, but he has also put in some heavyweight dramatic performances, most notably in two of the best dark, conspiracy thrillers of the last couple of decades, A Very British Coup and Edge of Darkness (a simply superb series – if you’ve never seen it, seek it out).

Fenella Woolgar, most recently seen in the Beeb’s Jekyll mini-series, will be appearing too, playing the famous crime novelist Agatha Christie, which makes me wonder if the episode where the Doctor meets Agatha will touch on the (in)famous episode of the author’s life where she disappeared for a short time. Is it just me, or does the show seem to be scaling the heights of the glory days of the 70s when a veritable who’s who (pun intended) of British thesps queued up to get a guest role in the show? And sticking with Who, the official site has a page of concept art for season three which is well worth a browse – should whet our appetites for Gary Russell’s upcoming Doctor Who Encyclopedia.
