Margaret Sheehan kindly sends me some follow-up information to last week’s news about William Gibson, the godfather of cyberpunk, making some virtual appearances in Second Life to support the imminent publication of his new novel, Spook Country as well as showing his short movie online: “For anyone who missed the beginning of the film, or was unable to attend on Monday (as is probably the case with several interested Americans), we are pleased to remind you “No Maps for These Territories” will be screening again this Sunday, July 22. The screening begins at 7:00pm BST (11:00am SLT) and is held in the new cinema in Avalon on the adjacent sim, Rivers Run Red. See you there!”
As before, interested Second Lifers should check the Penguin Readers Group for the latest updates, while the competition to design an SL avatar for Bill continues to the 30th of June. Spook Country is published by Penguin in August and although not a direct sequel to Pattern Recognition it does have one of the characters from the previous book and Bill has said that there is a thematic link between the two. William Gibson will also be appearing in the flesh at the Edinburgh International Book Festival on Monday 27th of August at 7pm.
