Good news for fans of the cinematic undead – horror master George Romero’s new installment in his continuing zombie series, Diary of the Dead, will be coming out next year. The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and, despite not having been put on general release yet, has already had a sequel green-lighted. The as-yet un-named sequel will lead on directly from Diary of the Dead and will be directed by Romero from his own screenplay.

According to the Wiki entry on the movie (so I can’t say how accurate it is) Diary, although the fifth in Romero’s series begun way back with Night of the Living Dead, it will also be some sort of ‘re-boot’ to allow newer audiences to jump right in and also to potentially establish a lucrative new franchise, although since the previous stories were thematically linked but also functioned as standalone tales with different characters I’m not sure it would really need any re-boot anyway.
