The BBC reports on the first new character to join the Bash Street Kids (once delivered to delighted kids every week by the great Leo Baxendale) in the venerable British comic The Beano since their inception some five decades or so back. Meet Wayne’s in Pain, an accident-prone youngster designed by seven-year old comics fan James Thompson of Sheffield who beat 27, 000 other entrants in a Blue Peter competition to design a new character for one of the DC Thomson comic’s most famous and long-lived strip.
