B7 Media has posted interviews with the writers of a new series of Blake’s Seven audio adventures, including Ben Aaronovitch and Marc Platt who have,as mnay fans will know, Doctor Who among their writing credits. The new audio shows will feature Derek Riddel as the eponymous Roj Blake (can the fans take anyone other than Gareth Thomas in the role?) and This Life’s Daniela Nardini as the sultry but vicious villain Servalan. There is also some talk on the B7 Media site about a a “live action sequel” which sounds intriguing, but there isn’t much in the way of details so far. Despite the ultra-cheap effects and sets of Terry Nation’s original series and some acting which could sometimes compete with William Shatner for the Giant Ham Award it remains a beloved piece of British SF, still fondly remembered and it did supply a darker, grittier edge than was usual in telefantasy of the time (maybe the time is right for a Galactica-style reboot?). My own very weak claim to B7 fame is selling some books once or twice to Gareth Thomas (who was very nice), the original Blake. Oh and now I could add eating ice cream in Daniela Nardini’s family ice cream parlour in Largs! (Thanks to John from Down the Tubes for the heads-up. )
