Michael Reccia has just sent us some information on the next (sixth) edition of Sci-Fi & Fantasy Modeller, which is due to be published in late July. You may recall Michael talking here on the blog last year, explaining the idea behind the magazine (which is really more like a book actually). Obviously it has appeal to anyone who enjoys model-making (both from kits and by making it themselves from scratch) but the articles and interviews (often with some of the top folks in the effects industry) also have a lot of appeal for those of us who are all thumbs at making things but are fascinated by the behind-the-scenes work of the special effects wizards.
It may seem pricey for a periodical, but as I said it has more in common with a book than a magazine, printed on high quality paper in order to reproduce the artwork and photographs to a good standard. The sixth volume will show how to make a Star Wars Venator Star Destroyer from scratch, a special on the original King Kong and stop-motion creatures in the movies (and all of us who grew up on Harryhausen movies love those) and a feature on Neil Gorton’s impressive Empress of Racnoss from the Doctor Who Christmas Special (which also makes a very creepy action figure) among others. Once again we’re offering Sci-Fi & Fantasy Modeller at a good price and we’re even throwing in free postage too, so go on, take advantage of our generous nature!
