The Harrison Heart Foundation (HHF) is dedicated to raising money for research into pulmonary vein stenosis which regularly occurs in and threatens the health of infant children. In partnership with the Royal Brompton Hospital, HHF has funded a unique research initiative that has gathered clinical data on every case of pulmonary vein stenosis that has occurred in the UK, Ireland and Sweden over the past 5 years in an effort to find the cause of the disease and work towards a cure.
Every year the Harrison Heart Foundation organises an event where a number of items are auctioned to raise money for this underfunded cause. You will shortly be able to see the item on the HHF Website here (along with a Robert Plant signed guitar) – Harrison Heart Foundation.
This year they have a piece that will appeal strongly to all collectors of Doctor Who merchandise, donated by Character Options whose Managing Director’s own child suffered from the condition. Currently you have to request a ticket and go along and bid in person at Borough Market, London on Monday, October 8th at 6.30pm. However there is a chance that they may manage to set up the auction with phone or even internet bidding to widen the audience before that date. If they do we will let you all know.
This is a version of the R/C (remote control) 12″ Dalek that was made specially for the Jonathan Ross show where the phrases on this Dalek were used to introduce David Tennant who was just about to takeover the role. The speech was recorded specially for the show by Nick Briggs who, as fans will know, does the actual Dalek voices on TV. There were two prototypes made each with different phrases. This actual Dalek appeared on air in the final TV version and was signed by David Tennant himself after the show had finished filming. There is no other one like this in the world. If it’s physically possible for you to go, go along and bid for this incredibly collectable item and know that you are helping a truly worthwhile cause.

[...] Following on from yesterday’s news of the extremely rare – one-of-a-kind being about as rare as you can get – Character Options remote controlled Dalek which was made specially for the Jonathan Ross show’s David Tennant appearance (and is signed by Tennant) which is being auctioned for the very worthy cause (the Harrison Heart Foundation) we are delighted to be able to tell you that the auction has also moved online to Ebay. Hopefully this means more collectors can now have a chance to bid on this immensely collectable and unique piece of Doctor Who memorabilia. The bidding has already reached £995 as of writing this – with the proceeds going to further research into a condition which threatens the lives of infants let’s hope the collector community shows how generous they are and push that bid up as far as it will go.
