Opus censored by editors

Comics and cartoons

Boing Boing has a number of links to the story that Berke Breathed’s Opus (the follow-on from his more Reagan-Bush Snr era Bloom County) has effectively been censored by editors in various newspapers which carry the strip who have decided not to run a storyline with fad-of-the-week gal Lola Granola who has now decided that being a radical Islamist is her latest bandwagon to ride for fear of those readers who might be offended on religious or sexual grounds (personally folks who get so easily offended on those grounds deserve to be so offended in my book). I like this observation BB highlighted from Dave Gillmor at the Center for Citizen media Blog: “Puritan prudishness and political cowardice: Now there’s a combination that’s just certain to attract more readers.” Couldn’t have put it better myself.
