Art and animation

Not comics, but this arts story on the BBC did make me smile – a woman called Sam Rindy visiting the Collection Lambert museum in Avignon in southern France was apparently so overcome by the pristine whiteness of a canvas by American artist Cy Twombly that she leaned over and planted a great big smacker on it, leaving behind a smudge of red lipstick. Our cousins in France are known for their passion in both the arts and l’amour but this was a little too far even for them and the police were called. “I left a kiss. A red stain remained on the canvas… This red stain is testimony to this moment, to the power of art, ” Rindy told the La Provence newspaper as she exited the police station. The painting is valued at some $2 million. Sadly there was no reported reaction from the artist. In Britain in the last couple of weeks we’ve had demands to ban a Tintin book, in Spain heavy handed censorship of a satirical magazine’s cartoon while in France a woman feels compelled to kiss a work of art. Vive le difference!
