Paul Cornell on I’m Ready For My Close-up

Paul Cornell, well known to Brit readers and viewers for his SF novels, Doctor Who New Adventures books and many TV scripts (including the current creepy two-parter Doctor Who story ‘Human Nature‘ which started last weekend), will be the subject of this week’s I’m Read For My Close-up show, Alex Fitch tells me. Paul is interviewed by Graham Sleight at January’s BSFA meeting (British Science Fiction Association, a fine group that supports good SF&F), then to Alex about the Doctor Who ‘Human Nature’ story (second part of which airs this weekend) and the redoubtable Farah Mendelsohn is also there to talk about the work of the BSFA (on a related topic the prestigious BSFA awards were given out only last month). Paul has also added comics scribe to his list of accomplishments, with the graphic novel of Wisdom: the Rudiments of Wisdom due from Marvel this August, while his previous outing XTNCT was published recently by Rebellion.

Not SF or comics, but still rather interesting sounding Alex has a second show on tomorrow, with an interview with “award winning playwright Ben Yeoh about his new translation of the 14th Century Noh play, Nakimitsu that is on at the Gate theatre in Notting Hill for the next three weeks and mixes homoerotic Yakuza drama, classical (bloody) samurai intrigue and musical numbers! It’s like a Miike Takashi film on stage (and is the best thing I’ve ever seen in the theatre)...” As always you can tune into Resonance FM if your’re in the London area or else check out the site or Alex’s blog where he regularly posts up MP3 files of the show for us to listen to – last week’s show with Bryan Talbot is available to listen to right now via the site.
