Who watches the watchmen?
A familiar face – at least familiar mask – walking the mean streets of New York, or in this case a backlot in Vancouver dressed up for the Watchmen movie (I could almost see Travis Bickle walking alongside him). I’m still worried as to how this landmark graphic novel will translate to film, but then I see an image like this on the movie’s blog and I get all excited against my better judgement, because it does look good – I can almost imagine Rorschach’s “I was offered French love and Swedish love but not American love” monologue accompanying this scene. There are some more photos (at a much larger resolution) on Warner Brother’s Watchmen movie blog, including the Gunga Diner and the newstand complete with kid sitting beside it reading comics. What I liked was the really obscure Brian Eno reference in the photograph of the comic shop.
I’m still not going to see the film, though, no matter how enticing it all looks, which, in fairness, is considerable at this point. If DC give Moore & Gibbons back the rights, then I’ll go see it!
