Film, TV and radio

Clare English, presenter of BBC Scotland’s fine literary show Book Café had Dan Goldman and Anthony Lappé on the show this afternoon to discuss Shooting War, which is about to make its UK print debut. There was much use of superlatives praising the work, I’m very pleased to say – I thought it was superb but it is nice to see it being so enthusiastically embraced by other books folks outside the comic milieu as well. Both Anthony’s gripping story of a near-future Iraq and Dan’s mixed-media artwork were highly praised, which is good news, considering a stumbling block for non-comics readers into the medium is being able to follow the graphics and with Dan’s artwork being quite intense I was worried it might be harder for some folks unfamiliar with the genre to get into it, but that certainly doesn’t seem to be the case here. If you missed the live broadcast you can catch it on the BBC’s archives for seven days.
