Remember Captain Britain? Perhaps you don’t…

Comics and cartoons

John at Down The Tubes has an interesting post (sorry, no permalink) on the ‘other’ Captain Britain. Dez Skinn recently came across a long-forgotten sketch design for Captain Britain – not the Marvel character, but a possible new strip for IPC Fleetway a couple of decades back. The sketch is by artist Tom Kerr, who worked on a range of British series, including Adam Eterno, Black Axe and the Saxon Avenger.

The project was code-named JNP 55 (Juvenile New Project, John explains – a way of keeping rival DC Thomson in the dark) and was pased round other artists after Kerr, including Eric Bradbury. Now it remains a largely forgotten ‘what if?’ from the history of British comics. Would Marvel’s similarly named character have happened if the Fleetway one had happened? Or would we have had a second version of the ‘Captain Marvel’ and ‘Captain Mar-Vell’ situation?
