“Serieteket, the library for comics and graphic literature, is still unique among Swedish libraries. During our first ten years we have constantly strived to broaden our own and the reading public’s conception of what comics can achieve as an artform. We want to be a place where you can read and check out comics and books about the rich history of the medium, and provide new impressions regarding graphic literature’s potential through our exhibitions and special events.” from the Serieteket website (via Library Crunch). Oh my god, I think I am having a geekgasm just thinking about such a place dedicated to our beloved comics medium. Somehow I imagine nippy mothers moaning about the content of graphic novels and demanding they be censored would get short shrift there. We can only dream of such a palace of delights here, another illustration of the different way the sequential arts are perceived in Europe and Britain.

(Cover to Der Unschuldige Passagier by Martin Tom Dieck)
The library is currently running an exhibition by Martin Tom Dieck, which ends on May 27th. Coincidentally Martin is one of the European comics creators we have added to our main webstore recently, where we have upped the number of titles we are now offering from Reprodukt and added Edition Moderne to our range as well (joining our range of titles from Belgian publisher Bries). There aren’t many places in the UK offering these works, so if you are looking for something interesting from Europe, please do have a browse.
