The Hollywood Reporter has a good round-up of the science fiction and comics related TV and movie revelations from the weekend’s San Diego Comic con, including news that Kevin Smith will direct the first episode of the spin-off show Heroes: Origins, the former Warrior Princess Lucy Lawless will return for the next season of Battlestar Galactica, Sam Jones from the 1980s Dino de Laurentis Flash Gordon will cameo in the forthcoming new Flash Gordon TV series (which is nice; similarly I seem to recall original Flash and Buck Rogers Larry Buster Crabbe had a guest slot in the Glen A Larson Buck Rogers) and Farscape (still missed!) creator Rockne S O’Bannon will be developing new stories for a ten-episode web series (‘webisodes’) of the show for SciFi.com (yay!). Despite the strong Hollywood contingent it was denied that the convention is becoming more dominated by film and TV than it is comics, but as the event’s marketing director David Glanzer commented, that was a perception perhaps fostered by the fact the studios have big marketing budgets to announce their presence but a look at the events and guest list would confirm that comics still ruled the roost.
