Film, TV and radio

William Shatner has told reporters that he is upset and also mystified at why he hasn’t been asked to play a role in the upcoming JJ Abrams’ Star Trek movie. “I thought, ‘what a decision to make’, since it obviously is a decision not to make use of the popularity I have to ensure the movie has good box office. It didn’t seem to be a wise business decision,” the Shat told reporters with his customary modesty (hard to believe some people say he has a large ego, isn’t it?). Abrams is already on record as saying he would like to have a role for Shatner (Leonard Nimoy is reprising his role as Spock while Zachary Quinto from heroes will play the younger version of the Vulcan), but according to Shatner his meetings with Abrams didn’t come to anything. Chris Pine will play the young Kirk in the movie, the eleventh big screen outing for the Trek franchise; as most Trek fans know there is something of a superstition regarding the odd-numbered films not being the best, although after the dismal tenth movie perhaps the odd=bad, even=good myth has been buried.
