Shooting War in USA Today

Comics and cartoons

The print version of Shooting War gets a mention in the Fall Books 2007 feature in USA Today, probably one of the biggest selling newspapers in the US:

What it’s about: An anti-corporate video blogger who captures a terrorist attack in 2011 New York heads to Iraq to uncover the “real story” of the still-raging war.

Why it’s big: What started as a subversively buzz-worthy online comic on Smithmag.net now comes to print as an expanded hardcover with new material. And Lappe, executive editor for Guerrilla News Network, knows Iraq: He produced Battleground:21 Days on the Empire’s Edge, a 2004 documentary.”

The book is also featured in the clickable book graphic at the top of the article, although the interface is annoyingly vague to use – selecting the month you are interested in (November for Shooting War) is straightforward (marked on the book’s spine) but the numbers on the ‘page’ aren’t dates as you might reasonably expect, you need to click on those to go through the other highlighted titles to see Shooting War. A designer getting carried away with what they can do without thinking how most folks will use it, methinks. Still, on the book front it is good news to see Anthony and Dan’s graphic novel baby being mentioned in a paper with such a large readership – although what some of those readers might think of it I do wonder… (thanks to Dan Goldman for the link)
