I’m indebted to El Tio Berni from Spanish site Entrecomics for passing on some very heartening news – in Spain the Culture Ministry has created the National Comic Award, with a prize of 15, 000 Euros. As he pointed out that may not sound like a lot of money but the point is it puts the new award on an equal footing with the prestigious Literature or Spanish History awards, which adds some serious weight to perceiving the medium as a genuine art form in Spain – wouldn’t we just love to see that sort of recognition here? There’s a link here to a PDF being sent out to newspapers, although of course it is in Spanish, while Entrecomics has their more informed take (also in Spanish) on their own blog (thanks for sharing, guys!).
