Blake Bell on the Best of Most of blog has revealed that popular presenter, friend of Neil Gaiman and huge comics fans Jonathan Ross has a programme coming up on the BBC entitled “In Search of Steve Ditko”, which Ross approached him about a few months back, although he couldn’t mention it on his blog until now. Contributors include Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, Mark Millar, Stan Lee, John Romita and Paul Levitz among others, as well as an interview with Steve Ditko himself. Blake (who I will forgive for not realising the British Broadcasting Corporation transmits to the whole of Britain and not just England, hence the name) promises more details to come on his blog, so we’ll need to go back for another look. Between this and the upcoming three one-hour programmes on British comics due this autumn our beloved genre seems to be getting some decent attention from the Beeb. Whoops! That cover of Amazing Fantasy #15 your illustrating this story with is nice, but it’s drawn by Jack Kirby, not The Great Ditko. Look at the face of and hands of poor sap under Spidey’s arm: Kirby.
Whoopa!

Actually, the _pencils_ on the page are by Kirby, the inks are by Ditko.

When can we see this again?

Dave, I think BBC 4 already repeated it several times in the week after the initial broadcast, as they often do on the digital channels, but no idea when it may get repeated again now – more than likely all of the comics season will get re-screened at some point either on 4 or maybe a terrestrial showing on BBC2. The makers said they were hoping it would get a BBC2 screening at some point but nothing has been announced by schedulers yet

Steve Ditko. My all time fave artist.
I actaully saw the cover Ditko had planned and did (not coloured) for the above Kirby-done first Spider-man.
Its actually significantly better.
I dunno what Stan Lee was thinking of.
