Comics and cartoons

The wonderfully titled “Gad, Sir!Comics!” blog picks up on a disturbing item – a new Superman figure which has more than a passing resemblance to British Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown, MP.

(is the Chancellor’s dour Scots demeanour just a front to hide his true identity? And is this why he hasn’t been stronger on bringing in taxes on flying?)

And, as Steve Flanagan points out in the aforementioned blog, the old Whoops Apocalypse TV series of jolly Cold War shenanigans (oh how we giggled back in the days of Mutually Assured Destruction!) had a plotline where the British Prime Minister is not worried about an all-out nuclear war with the Soviets because he is, in fact, Superman. To offer proof to his somewhat surprised cabinet ministers he takes off his spectacles. Since there is a good chance Gordon Brown might be the next prime minister, should we be afraid?
