Over on top webcomics collective Act-I-Vate! Nick Bertozzi has posted a fascinating glimpse into an alternative version of the Black Diamond Detective Agency. As we know the excellent Eddie Campbell adapted this unproduced movie screenplay into a graphic novel, recently published by First Second (who have grown remarkably quickly to be one of the graphic novel publishers to watch, we’re big fans of their work here). But before that Nick Bertozzi and James Sturm were asked in 2003 to create a graphic novel based on the screenplay; Nick ended up working instead on Houdini: the Handcuff King and Eddie would create the Black Diamond Detective Agency, but Nick and James did create a ten-page pitch for Black Diamond, which Nick has posted up now on Act-I-Vate! Is it just me or do you guys now wish you could read both versions back to back?

It is good to know that a graphical novel version of Black Diamond Detective Agency would soon be floated in the internet. It would surely be an exciting news for the kids…
