Ellen Lindner tips us off to the new issue of the wonderfully-named Whores of Mensa, a comic created by a collective of independent female writers and artists. The collective comprises of a rotating cast of ladies, including Jeremy Dennis, Mardou, Lucy Sweet and Ellen, while each issue normally has a theme for them to weave tales around. The new third issue has the exotic theme of the harem; from Ellen’s description: “the stories include an opium fantasy, a re-working of Jane Eyre in the Middle East, and a belly dancer’s attempt at career counselling,” which sounds pretty intriguing to me! You may also want to check out the Whores of Mensa Live Journal, which has some very interesting material on gender issues and plenty of good art to enjoy too. The new comic is available from the Whores of Mensa site and you can also find it on our British Small Press section.
(the girls get all Scheherezade in issue 3 of The Whores of Mensa)
