Film, TV and radio

According to the Hollywood Reporter the much-mooted second X-Files movie has moved a step closer to crossing from rumour mill territory (where it has languished for a fair old time) to reality. Speaking at the weekend David Duchovny commented that both he and Gillian Anderson were onboard to reprise their iconic roles as Mulder and Scully and that he was expecting to see a script next week. Original X-Files creator Chris Carter has been working on the script along with Frank Spotnitz, with Carter set to direct if it goes ahead. Of course this doesn’t guarentee a new movie will be made but it does look as if the interest is still there from the studio – the question then becomes, after the lacklustre way such a good series petered out in the final seasons, would an audience now be interested? Although, I suppose if a fair percentage of the people who watched the series went along even out of feelings of nostalgia and curiousity the film would still pull in a repsectable audience.

Now 20th Century Fox have officially announced the movie will be going ahead, with filming due to commence on December 10th – presumably with the threat of a screen writers (and possibly actors) strike looming over Tinsel Town studios are keen to get productions going as swiftly as possible.
