Last week an auction of comic memorabilia resulted in prices surpassing all expectations. The action focused on items related to Hergé and Tintin, with an original full page illustration from La Crabe Aux Pinces D’or (The Crab With the Golden Claws) selling for 58, 000 Euros (or £41, 500). A copy of Tintin Au Pays Des Soviets (Tintin In The Land Of The Soviets) from 1930, numbered and signed as number 3, fetched 40, 000 Euros (around £29, 000), as did a preliminary sketch for the cover to Les Bijous De La Castafiore (La Castafiore’s Diamond).
Another successful item was an illustration featuring Hergé’s other well-known characters Quick Et Flupke, which went for 30000 Euros (£21, 500). Besides work by Hergé, the auction also featured memorabilia relating to people like André Franquin, Albert Uderzo, Moebius, Tibet, Greg, E.P. Jacobs, Jijé, Bilal, Morris and Grzegorz Rosinski. A Bilal cover for Le Vaisseau de Pierre went for some 44, 000 Euros while a page by Moebius from Arzach went for 51, 000 Euros.
