Comics and cartoons

Gary Northfield drops me a line to say that his Derek the Sheep strip, which has been appearing on what he calls “a vaguely monthly basis” in the Beano and Beano Max for the last four years, is to be published in France by Thierry Groensteen’s L’ An 2. For the French market Derek, not the most Gallic of names, will become Norbert le Mouton, with the first collection due out in France in February.

We love our British comics here and we love some of the great work coming from the Continent so it is a pleasure to see the two combined like this – well done, Gary. You can have a look at the preview L’ An 2 has up on their website here. British publishers are also picking up on Gary’s creation, I’m pleased to say – Bloomsbury (publishers of a certain Harry Potter among other titles) will be printing a similar collection for autumn 2008.
