Awards, Comics and cartoons

Dan at Bugpowder notices that the initial nominations for the Eagle Awards, the UK’s top gongs for comics, have been collated and you can now select from the final shortlist nominees in each category and cast your vote. Sadly we don’t appear to have made the final shortlist for the Favourite Comics Related Website this time round (maybe we need Harvey Weinstein running our ‘for your consideration’ campaign!) but I know a number of folks did vote for us in the initial round and all the FPI online crew would like to say thanks for that, guys, we appreciate it.

Actually on looking closer at the final list there seems to be a lack of British comics sites in there – no Bugpowder, no Down The Tubes, both top sites for supporting UK comics. A shame, especially considering these are the UK’s top comics awards, but there’s always next year – meantime it won’t stop me casting my vote and I’d encourage everyone to visit the site and do likewise – some of the really good creators are in there for the British comics categories, including Carl Critchlow for Thrud the Barbarian, the Ventedspleen and the crew from Tales From the Flat. Also nice to see the late Tom Frame’s name on the Roll of Honour noms as well as Best Lettering.
