If, like me, you are a big fan of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead series from Image, you will be very happy to hear the much delayed sixth volume – “This Sorrowful Life” – has finally arrived with this week’s batch of new arrivals, so you can finally find out what happened to Rick, last seen in a bit of a state, prisoner of a madman who had chopped Rick’s hand off and fed it to a zombie (don’t try that at home, kids). In fact after weeks of delay Image is showering undead blessings upon us this week because the second Walking Dead hardback collection has also arrived (typical, you wait ages for one Kirkman zombie book then two shuffle their decaying feet in the door on the same day).
If you haven’t been keeping up with the comics issues and trade paperback collections, or you are new to the series, the hardback collections – volume 1 is still available – are a very good way to get into it (and at a pretty decent price as well), with each containing 12 issues of the series, so you can mainline a big Kirkman-Adlard hit. If you like George Romero’s zombie films, with their mix of social observation, political commentary and personal drama mixed with brain-chewing horror then you should be reading this.
