Dave Ryan of Red Anvil Comics dropped me a line via the wonderful world of ComicSpace about War of the Independents, a crossover series due to launch in the summer of 2008 and co-published by Arcana and following a 4-issue ‘lead-in’ series, Penance, due this summer. Have a look at Dave’s ComicSpace page for the rather impressive list of contributors and characters who will be involved in the project, including Billy Tucci (Shi), Joe Linsner (Cry for Dawn), Mike Allred (Madman), Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash), Scott McCloud (Zot) and Jim Valentino (Shadowhawk) among many others. You can check out the finished pencils for the promotional art (as seen below) on Dave’s MySpace account and he has an online gallery of his other artwork, comics and otherwise, here.

Well….lol the “indy-superhero clusterfuck” is coming along. I hope everyone had a happy New Years Eve and a proper drink up. The crossover will be an 4 issue mini series aimed at promoting the Independent creators and often overlooked characters of a unfortunately dwindling market. In each issue there will be a 6 page back-up story of an unknown and unpublished character.
I hope that everyone gives it a chance. As far as Zot’s scowl…it might be just Faust’s breath!
Sincerely,
Dave Ryan

I’m excited and honoured to be a part of this mega storyline. My character The Wraith will play an important role in War of the Independents, and I also intend to publish a crossover issue tie-in with WotI as part of the process.
