Here’s an unusual link for us – it isn’t often we point you to a site on gardening (my horticultural ability is pretty much limited to being able to read books in the garden) but here’s a site from the Charities Aid Foundation to do with the famous Chelsea Flower Show. Why are we pointing you in this direction? Well, because the garden in question is inspired by one of the most gorgeous children’s picture books of all time, Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are (Sendak also later created the picture book In the Night Kitchen, which I often think is to children’s picture books what Little Nemo is to adult comics readers); a live action film version of Where the Wild Things Are is in the works for 2008 with Spike Jonze directing. The garden design won a silver medal at the Chelsea show. I wonder how many kids grew up loving the fabulous imagery in Sendak’s book? Even as an adult the artwork still seems wonderful to me.
