Boing Boing carries news that a number of 7-11 convenience stores in the US will be made over to resemble Springfield’s Kwik-e-Mart to coincide with this summer’s big screen outing for The Simpsons. Apparently Simpsons-inspired goods will be available for sale to customers in the special stores, including Buzz Cola, Squishees and Krusty Brand Cereal (I suspect the free jagged metal ‘O’s Bart ate in his will not be included). This has to be one of the silliest and yet coolest movie merchandising tie-ins I’ve seen. I wonder if staff will utter Apu’s immortal lines “thank you, come again!”? The chain will also be selling various items themed around other big movies this summer including Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four, although I don’t think these extend as far as turning stores into cartoon shops.
