Comics and cartoons, Competitions

The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper has announced details of their 29th international cartoon contest, with the frankly brilliant theme this year of – wait for it – teeth! Maybe it’s just the mid-week craziness hitting but for some reason that just tickles me, especially when you read some of the accompanying text:

Teeth are necessary parts of the body for survival and people’s mouths can convey their feelings as eloquently as their eyes. Eyes also can show lies and pretense, but the mouth is more honest, clearly expressing people’s feelings and thoughts.

Teeth are hard and sharp, and sometimes can work as a weapon. But such strengths can be easily lost without proper care. Perhaps such strength and fragility of teeth can be used as a metaphor for contemporary society. The theme may be a challenging one.

Yes, I am easily amused, I know… The closing date for entries September 21st with winners announced in December (thanks to Marko from Neorama for this)
