Alan Moore, principal Wizard of the Dark and Sequential Arts for this island kingdom, will be making an incredibly rare appearance to sign copies of the Lost Girls, along with Melinda Gebbie. Gosh! Comics of 39 Great Russell Street, London, have managed to pull off this feat which I’m sure has most of the rest of us involved in comics retailing feeling extremely jealous:
“Gosh! The London Comic Shop is proud to announce a signing by celebrated creators Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie to mark the long-awaited UK release of Lost Girls. The signing will take place in-store at Gosh! Comics, 39 Great Russell Street in Central London (opposite the British Museum) on the 2nd February 2008, from 2:00 to 5:00 in pm.”
Speaking briefly to Josh from Gosh! (yes, I know that rhymes and I’m pretty sure Josh has heard that plenty of times so it isn’t amusing now) I asked how on earth they had coaxed the Wizard of Northampton into a signing – as Josh noted, maybe his first formal comics store signing in the UK for nearly two decades? Did they bribe him with the offer of a rare first edition Aleister Crowley bound in the skin of a secret Victorian royal love child? As Josh pointed out both Gosh! and Tony Bennet’s Knockabout have worked to publish some of Alan’s work in the UK, so they already had a link, but he also counts himself “exceptionally lucky” that Alan and Melinda have agreed to this very rare signing. If you are in London on the 2nd then you should stop what you’re doing and take advantage of this because who knows when you might next get the chance? For full details check Gosh!’s site.
