Books, Film, TV and radio

Tim Burton looks to have found the actress to play Alice in his forthcoming adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s wonderful (not to mention incredibly clever) fantasy Alice in Wonderland. Mia Wasikowska, an Australian actress, is said to be in final negotiations for the role according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film, which should begin shooting this November, will be a mix of live action and ‘performance capture’, to be presented in something called ‘Disney Digital 3-D’, from a script by The Lion King scribe Linda Woolverton. No, I don’t quite know what Disney Digital 3-D means either – hopefully it doesn’t mean wearing silly glasses as required for Beowulf (particularly annoying for those of us who have to wear real spectacles to see properly) and I’m not sure what the difference is between ‘motion capture’ and ‘performance capture’, suspecting the latter is just a fancier term for the former. But what I do understand here is ‘Tim Burton’, ‘Lewis Carroll’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Frankly that is more than enough to make me want to see it.
