Comics and cartoons

Over on the Trains Are Mint blog Oli East is sharing some artwork from his next project, Berlin And That, which is a collaborative project with other artists inspired by graffiti and murals in Berlin: “If I were to draw it all myself then it’d look a bit crap as obviously all the stuff in Berlin is done by a load of different people. So I’m drawing Germany as I normally would then giving the art to friends to add their own graffiti to. I told them it doesn’t have to be graffiti-esque at all, or they could just scrawl ‘Dave’ all over everything, it’s completely up to them, the thinking being that buildings and street furniture don’t get to pick what’s on them so I shouldn’t either.” I really like the sound of this – its interesting and different (is it comics? art? travelogue? does it matter, maybe we should just enjoy it and forget labels); if only we could get Banksy to paint an ad for the book on a prominent wall closer to the publication date. Its something to look forward to for next year, but meantime Oli has posted up a first glimpse of art for Berlin from Steven ‘Banal Pig’ Tillotson‘s contribution for us to enjoy now:
