Bin Laden – not a cartoon fan

Comics and cartoons

And oh how the Danish cartoon story doth rumble on – now, allegedly, the West’s favourite bogey man Osama Bin Laden has decided not enough people are paying attention to him and belatedly jumped on the ‘death to the cartoonists’ bandwagon which seems awfully popular in some regions of the world (helped in no small part by certain people stirring up a frenzy over it to suit their own agenda and to hell with whoever gets hurt in the process). On the BBC (which also has a link to a video clip of the alleged broadcast) the message is quoted as saying that the attacks of Europeans on women and children “paled [in comparison] when you went overboard in your unbelief and… went to the extent of publishing these insulting drawings. This is the greatest misfortune and the most dangerous.”

So apart from not being a big fan of cartoons or freedom of speech it appears the Bin Liner is of the opinion that a cartoon in a newspaper is far worse than the death of innocent civilians. I think that pretty much says all you need to know about the kind of person who utters such a vile comment. Of course it may not actually be the Bin Liner as there haven’t been any firm confirmations of his appearances in some time, it could be any murderous person who thinks drawing or writing anything they don’t agree with in another country should equal painful death for the creator, or failing that any handy civilians because, hey, they are all to blame for living in a free society and anyway it is alright because God told him it was fine (as opposed to most Muslims who seem to derive some measure of peace and strength from their beliefs rather than the warped message he has taken from it). Perhaps its just me, kids, but I still can’t get my head around the fact that anyone would want to kill over a simple ink drawing and I’m profoundly grateful that however flawed my personality and psyche may be it at least doesn’t comprehend that kind of insanity.
