Wesley Snipes, star of Marvel’s Blade movie adaptations, has been sentenced to three years in prison over tax offences by a judge in the US. The star had been accused of deliberately not filing tax returns for several years. Before sentencing Snipes apologised to the court and asked for leniency, stating that he was “an idealistic, naive, passionate, truth-seeking, spiritually motivated artist, unschooled in the science of law and finance.” The judge doesn’t seem to have been overly impressed with this declaration given the fact the offences occurred over several years and imposed the maximum sentence after the prosecution advised that, given his fame, he should be made an example to deter others. Snipes’ team of lawyers will be considering an appeal, although if that fails the authorities may succeed where legions of the undead failed and take the Daywalker out of circulation.
